Education Services
All children begin learning about life through the education process. Going to school is often a challenge for a child with an intellectual or a developmental disability. The Arc strives to make this "seemingly natural" step less difficult for everyone to face. Inclusion in the classroom has been proven to have a noticeable effect on the self-esteem of a child with an intellectual or developmental disability. The Arc of Fort Bend supports parents in their efforts to include their children in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities. The Arc works with schools, principals, teachers, and administration to develop plans that will benefit children and will meet the needs of their parents and teachers.
The Arc is very fortunate to have an Education Advocate on staff. Among her responsibilities are:
1 Facilitating Trainings on various topics related to Special Education. Check the calendar or the Trainings/Workshop Section on the website for the next training.
2. Organizing Arc Parents for Education which is an informal support group that generally meets once a month at one of our member's homes. Check calendar for the date of the next meeting.
3. Assisting parents with ARD preparations.
4. Serving as a resource and referral for parents, teacher and administrators.
