Many Individuals with disabilities rely on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid and other public benefits for much-needed support such as income, health-care, food and housing assistance. However, retaining eligibility for these benefits allows only $2,000 in countable assets. This financial limitation makes it difficult to establish financial independence and save for many disability-related expenses. An ABLE account allows people with disabilities to put money aside for their future needs without jeopardizing their public benefit eligibility.
