COVID-19: Q&A: Texas Special Education & School Closure Due to COVID-19
Q & A: What happens to my child’s special education program if school remains closed for an extended period of time? If school buildings remain closed but the school district is providing education services to the general student population through an online platform or checking out text books and homework packets to students, then the school must make all reasonable efforts to provide services to students with disabilities. This includes not only providing equal access to the same materials offered to the general student population, but also to make every effort to implement the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and provide special education services, accommodations, related services like speech, physical and occupational therapy, etc.
