The Teen Pals Network matches a teen with IDD with a neurotypical teen 1 to 1 for conversations or meet-ups to practice building personal rapport and social skills.
A teen with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) between the ages of 13 – 19 is connected with a “Teen Pal” volunteer who is a neuro-typical high school peer between the ages of 14 – 17. The pair can meet on the phone, FaceTime, Zoom, or in person if the teens and their parents agree. The purpose of the program is for the teens to have fun, casual conversations while also giving the teen with IDD an opportunity to practice building personal rapport and social skills with a peer.
The Teen Pal volunteer has casual conversations, plays games and fun activities with their Teen Pal. This program is not intended to be educational or therapeutic.
Current members of The Arc of Fort Bend County who have an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) between the ages of 13 – 19, may apply to the program. For more information contact 281-494-5959 or info@arcoffortbend.org.
